'You are my shining light'- Memory Crystal

Sometimes you receive a request that simply makes itself due to the beautiful energy a soul can emit, even though they have left the world far too soon. This piece is one of them, made in memory of Caoimhe, a girl who fought a brave battle, and inspired so many around her. Her spirit, love of nature, family and friends was as endless as a rainbow reaching over the hills.

She had sent me a message earlier in the year to create something special for her mom to help her when the inevitable would happen. Her brave message to me were the words of a young lady who had been through so much in her 19 years, yet she had the clarity and wisdom of someone who lived 90. She was instantly an inspiring voice. A few months ago I heard from Caoimhe’s mother of her passing. She wanted to honour her wishes with commissioning a necklace in her memory. As Caoimhe had a love of flowers, we decided a pink rose was ideal; a youthful beauty. The crystal was hand gilded with her favourite rose gold, and strands of her blonde hair protectively embraced the scene.

While photographing the final piece, the sunbeams pierced through my window on what had been a cloudy day, and radiated through the crystal, bouncing pink rainbows around the room. It was a magical moment. Her mother later informed me that a day earlier they had been celebrating Caoimhe when a dazzling rainbow appeared over the promenade. A definite sign that Caoimhe was watching over, admiring her necklace and sending her spirit along our way just as in life.
