'Design for Life'- Custom Made Treasures

The last month and a half I have been busy working away in my little studio on some wonderful custom orders. It’s been wonderful to work on bespoke pieces once more. They always challenge me and make me think outside the box of my usual design process and how I approach a composition.

I chose two recent examples to showcase how diverse the design consultations can be. The first Looking Glass was commissioned by my client who wanted to combine their love of the oceanside with the forest. They also had a desire to include my signature watercolour swirl in a seafoam tone. I did have to think long and hard on how to best create an arrangement that looked harmonious and dynamic, and avoid a confusing visual. I used a tiny seashell from my collection, and it held a delicate pearl within. It rested in a forest of ferns and moss with the water lapping gently behind. A sprinkling of ivory and golden toned ammi majus completed this coastal botanical beauty.

The second Looking Glass had an entirely different theme; an elegant summer meadow in pale pinks, honey tones and white. My client was influenced by two older Looking Glass designs I had made, and wanted a combination of both with little elemental alterations.

I used a chamomile flower from my cottage garden as the focus flower, embraced by wild grasses and a selection of native wildflowers from the hedgerows around our farm.

The final piece has a vintage faded beauty to it, completely unique, and will be cherished by its new owner.
