'Forever Bee Mine'- Custom Wedding Jewellery
Custom work keeps me very busy and I would not have it any other way, as it’s my favourite part of creating. It allows me to think outside the box, and push my creative boundaries to places I normally wouldn’t venture when I’m working on personal projects. I have a lot of past custom work, which I’m finally finding the time to write about, and this is one such project I made for a lovely client of mine.
She asked me to design two bespoke piece that she and her fiance would wear on their wedding day. She had a desire for a hexagonal shaped matching necklace and a brooch for him to pin to his tie. The honeycomb shape was something I don’t normally work with, but it was a lovely challenge and enabled me to build up my signature miniature gardens within the piece due to its depth. The flowers in each piece were a combination from my own collection - Irish moss and tiny Queen Anne’s Lace flowers, and the rest were from flowers she had kept from the bouquet her fiance gifted her on their engagement. I trimmed down the rose petals into smaller versions, and arranged them and wild grasses as a protective floral border to the scene.
I decided to add two dandelion seeds into the centre to symbolise the couple, and their eternal love, hopes and wishes as they embark on their journey together. The resin in the necklace was left crystal clear, while I hand gilded the brooch in my style of broken 24k gold leaf. The pieces turned out beautifully and are timeless and highly sentimental keepsakes for a very special couple.
