'Girl with the Pearl Earring'- Custom Bridal Jewellery

This custom wedding project made a welcome change from botanicals, as I was given the opportunity to work with a new material- Mother of Pearl. My client wanted me to create three pairs of earrings using sentimental shells she had collected on holidays. She wanted fragments of the shell combined with 24k gold leaf in my raindrop style earring. One pair she would wear herself on her upcoming wedding day, another pair would be gifted to her mother, and the last pair as a special memento to her mother-in-law.

I began with delicately scraping the top layers of the shells to reveal the opaline Mother of Pearl beneath, its shimmery splendour was a sight to behold. The shell was then broken into shards and mixed into the resin. As the drops move on the ear wires, the light bounces upon the surface of the shells, illuminating in a rainbow of colour.

The earrings are now in the hands of their new owners and ready to be debuted on her big day.
