'Through the Looking Glass'- New collection
Since the middle of last year I’ve been secretly working away on a lot of new concepts for Lost Forest. One idea was a brand new pendant frame design for my signature Looking Glass necklaces.
When I first designed and made the original frames, there was nothing comparable to them anywhere. It’s always an integral part of my creative process to keep making authentic pieces; pieces that have artistic intention, merit, imagination and craftsmanship. The Looking Glasses became hugely successful and popular across the world, even winning a design award with the IDI. I was genuinely humbled by their positive reception. As an artist working alone, and conceiving new ideas and techniques, I never quite know how they will be met by my customers and supporters. There’s usually a innate sense of trepidation before launching a new style and collection, which is highly understandable and all part of the artistic journey.
As an artist, I don’t like to become complacent. I relish to continually evolve my designs and brand. I decided to re-design my Looking Glasses for a rejuvenation and for a personal challenge. I love to collect vintage and antique curios, accumulating quite the collection over the years. Apart from nature, these objects are my inspiration behind my ideas. For me - someone with a highly active imagination - I find I can reel in an idea from a seemingly insignificant item or detail. One such piece inspired me to evolve the pendant frame; a gold pocket watch. I wanted to keep the original concept of the ‘looking glass’ but I also wanted to incorporate little nuances from the pocket watch, such as the elegant looped bail, and a neater profile. I sketched numerous designs in my notebook, and finally designed one I was happy with (see below). It was weeks and months of painstaking designing and making, but I’m delighted with the result; a truly beautiful gold frame to cradle the floral world within. The new collection is now available in store now.
