'Frozen'- Botanical Ice Sculptures
Last year, while leaving dishes of water out for the birds during a snowy spell, some of the dishes froze into beautiful medallions of ice. My husband had the idea to fill one with flowers to resemble a giant version of my Looking Glasses. I sprinkled in some of the blooms peaking through the glittering soil, and the next day I had this beauty.
As we are currently experiencing another spring cold snap, the idea popped back into my head. Luckily, I had more flowers in the garden this year; a bounty of daffs, crocus, sweet William, cyclamen and a dash or two of oak moss lichen. The result is a spectacular botanical display, encapsulated only for a few hours in an icy cocoon.
