'Summer Festival'- New Looking Glass Collection

My brand new Looking Glass collection will launch this Wednesday June 3rd. It is the largest collection I’ve made so far, partly thanks to the recent lockdown, which allowed me to slowly and methodically work away in my studio over the last 3 months to build up my favourite collection I’ve made so far.

I wanted to create a vivid and joyful collection to add an injection of happiness and colour after a very uncertain and scary time in which we all lived through. My pieces are a celebration or ‘festival’ of summer and the cathartic effect nature can have on all of us. We can now gently and peacefully release ourselves out of our cocoons into a hopefully brighter future.

My new pixie Looking Glass is also making its debut. I worked on the new frame during the lockdown, as I was keen to create a miniature version of my original Looking Glass pendant. I’m thrilled with the result; perfectly tiny, and ideal for any pixie to wear. There are also two limited edition collections; ‘The Blossom Garden’, inspired by the frivolity of an Edwardian garden party, and ‘The Midnight Garden’, which was inspired by the dark romance of the Victorian era, and their secret language of flowers.

This collection is also a little different than normal as the resin process is inspired by 19th C handmade glass panels (cylinder glass), which had waves rippling through them due to the process of heating and blowing, resulting in a beautiful characteristic fluid pattern. I created my own version of this technique with a subtle wave in the resin to resemble vintage glass when held up to the light. When placed against the skin the effect disappears to reveal a clear Looking Glass once again. A little bit of fairy magic in action.

I hope you all enjoy the new collection. Which piece is your favourite? Leave your answers in the comments below. - Gillian x
