'Bunny Tales'- Custom Pet Memorial Jewellery
Over the last few months I’ve been lucky to work with some incredibly lovely and kind customers who wanted to immortalise the memory of their beloved pets into wearable keepsakes. I always feel very privileged to be asked to create such meaningful pieces, which I know will be cherished for a lifetime or more.
Today, I’ll be showcasing a couple of recent Looking Glasses I made. Both clients had lost their dear fluffy bunny friends, and wanted to keep their memory alive in the form of a locket they could wear each day.
The first bunny locket evoked the sense of an eternal magical woodland, and was rich in symbolism. The mushroom in Buddhist culture represents transformation, rebirth, and recycling of all things that have departed. The gold speckles represent the ‘Golden Land’ of Burma. The border was arranged using tendrils of Irish moss (symbolic of everlasting life), forest ferns (eternal youth), and a little shamrock (derived from the Irish word - seamróg 'Little Clover' representing something little and young). The small white wild carrot flowers seemed a fitting tribute to the little buns.
Lastly, I weaved their fur together to create a beautiful contrasting braid, that flows in an everlasting gentle breeze.
The second bunny locket had a different theme; a golden wildflower meadow. Once again I used the wild carrot blooms, along with a feature chamomile flower and a delicate border of honeyed wild grasses and moss. The pretty honey tone of the rabbits fur perfectly complimented the tonal palette, and I gently weaved his fur through the border to create a dynamic and evocative feel.
The piece resonates a sense of gentle serenity, and will keep the precious memories of her sweet friend close to her heart forever. -Gillian x
